Assistant Commissioner of Custom Preventive House Sajjad Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Friday
A Dhaka customs house preventive team has detained two people, with around 4kg gold at Hajrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
The detainees are -- Sayed Ahmed Mallik and Md Yousuf.
Assistant Commissioner of Custom Preventive House Sajjad Hossain confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Friday.
He said: "Acting on information, custom officials took positions at various points of the airport and caught Sayed Ahmed Mallik, a passenger coming from Madina on a Kuwait Airways flight, around 12:30am on Friday. The team members recovered 17 gold bangles weighing around 2.120kg. Its market value is around Tk1.06 crore.
They detained another passenger, Yousuf, coming in from Dubai who landed at Dhaka Airport on an Emirates Airlines flight, around 6:30pm on Thursday. They recovered 16 gold bars from Yousuf’s pockets, which weighed around 1.856kg. Its market value is around Tk92.80 lakh, Sajjad Hossain said.
Legal action will be taken against them, he said.
