A Chinese national’s body has been recovered from a garden in Banani.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) (Gulshan Division) Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Abdul Ahad confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.

When contacted, DMP Deputy Commissioner (Gulshan Division) Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, said: "Gaojian's driver, Md Sultan, was the one who discovered the body in the garden behind the building and informed us. Following which the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Crime Scene unit went to the spot and dug out the body.

"The head and an ankle of the deceased were visible when the body was discovered."

"There were blood stains on the nose and ears of the deceased. He also had injury marks on his neck. Gaojian had an office opposite his building and one of his footwear with blood stains was recovered from there.

"Primary investigation suggests that he was strangled to death inside his flat. His body will be sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday, after which the cause of death will be confirmed. The CID and Detective Branch [DB] are also investigating the incident," he added.

"Suspiciously the CCTV cameras of the building have been out of order since October 23. We have questioned six suspects including the victim's driver, house help, translator and one night guard of the building. We are suspecting that this murder was a result of a business rivalry," Sudip said.

According to sources, the driver of the deceased Chinese national saw new soil in one corner of the garden on Wednesday noon.

Later, he dug out the area and saw the body of Gaojian and then informed the police.

Police suspects that the man was murdered sometime during the early hours of on Wednesday.
