Saikat was detained for interrogation on Saturday night

Police have shown Abdur Rahman Saikat arrested in a case filed over the death of Stamford University student Rubaiyat Sharmin Rumpa, under mysterious circumstances.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Masudur Rahman said they will produce him before the court on Sunday, seeking a seven-day remand.

Detectives detained Saikat, said to be Rumpa's former lover, for interrogation on Saturday night, reports UNB.

The body of Rumpa, 22, a second year English student of Siddheswari branch of the private university, was recovered from an alley of the area on Wednesday night.

Police sent her body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue as an unidentified one. Later, her family members identified the body on Thursday evening.

On Thursday morning, police filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station in this connection.

Claiming that Rumpa, daughter of police Inspector Rokan Uddin, was murdered, her family members and fellows demanded arrest of the perpetrators.
