Two factions of the Salimullah Muslim Hall Union of Dhaka University (DU) on Saturday violently clashed over evicting an outsider from the residential hall premises, that left one injured.

The clash took place when a group of resident students of the hall, led by its hall Union General Secretary Zulias Cizar, launched an eviction drive to remove outsiders and non-students from the hall premises, eye witnesses said.

In the middle of the drive, students found one Shujan in room no 152, who was believed to have been staying in the room under the protection of the hall Union Social Service Secretary Milon Hossain Khan.

The students attacked the outsider [Shujan] leaving him seriously injured and threw his bed, mattress and belongings out of the room.

On information, the Social Service Secretary Milon, accompanied by some activists of the hall unit of the Bangladesh Chhatra League rushed to the spot and chased the students wielding iron rods and sticks, ensuing a clash between the two groups.

Later, hall Union Vice-President Kamal Uddin and hall unit Bangladesh Chhatra League President Tahsan Ahmed Russel went to the spot and pacified both the groups.

Meanwhile, house tutors of Salimullah Muslim hall instructed the alleged outsider Shujan to leave the hall immediately.

When asked, house tutor of the hall Shabbir Ahmed said they would take action after investigating the incident.

Milon Hossain stays alone at a room in which eight students are supposed to reside and Shujan had been paying Milon money to stay in his room, alleged hall Union general secretary Zulias Cizar.

Milon, however, could not be reached over the phone for comments.
