Law Minister Anisul Huq said the ministry sent a proposal to the Finance Ministry to increase honorarium of the public prosecutors (PPs) and government pleaders (GPs) as high as Tk50,000. But the Finance Ministry suggested to set the highest amount at Tk15,000.

If the government allocates the Law Ministry’s demand for PP, GP'S honorarium, it would require Tk268 crore yearly, but it would help government to earn and secure at least Tk2,668 crore, the minister said.

Anisul said this speaking as a chief guest at a program “21st Special Training Course for the Public Prosecutors and Government Pleaders” on Tuesday at the Judicial Administration Training Institute at College Road in Dhaka.

The minister said he would not agree with the suggested amount quoted by the Finance Ministry and would definitely increase the amount as per his demand.

He said, PPs and GPs have to work with a serving mentality. They have to help the court to make the case management system easier. The PPs and GPs have to follow laws and rules and also inspire the justice seekers and others lawyers.

Government is thinking of updating the service provided by public prosecutors by formulating a law, the minister said.

Justice Khandaker Musa Khaled, director general of the Judicial Administration Training Institute chaired the program.
