Female students of Dhaka University (DU) will be able to buy sanitary pads from Wednesday with the retail price from 10 vending machines installed in the campus.

Each of the pads will cost Tk10, Dhaka University Central Students' Union (Ducsu) member Tilottama Sikder said at a press conference in the campus on Sunday.

A total of 10 vending machines have been installed at 10 different places of the campus, she said.

Ducsu in association with ACI Group initiated the service to ease the female students' challenges.

Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni is scheduled to inaugurate the service on Wednesday.

By placing a conventional Tk10 note into the vending machine, anyone can collect a sanitary napkin from the machines.

“We want to wage a social movement through installing vending machines at DU campus against the taboo over menstruation of women that have already established in our society, the Ducsu member added.

Along with five female dormitories, the vending machines have been installed in Teacher-Student Centre (TSC), girls' common rooms at Arts, Business Studies, Fine Arts faculties and the Library of the Science Faculty.
