Man killed in launch-trawler collision in Sadarghat

He was declared dead at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital on Friday night

A man has been killed after a launch hit a trawler in Dhaka's Sadarghat.

The deceased, Shahidul Islam, 45, was the principal and owner of Holy Homes Kindergarten School and son of Moslem Uddin from Dhaka's Hazaribagh area.

Shahidul's wife Ayerin Begum said: "He was coming back from Barisal and when I called him in the evening, an unknown voice received the call and asked me to come to the Kholamora ghat in Dhaka's South Keraniganj.

"Later, our relatives rushed there to find him injured, and took him to the emergency unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where doctors declared him dead around 9pm on Friday."

Kamrangirchar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mostafa Anwar said: "Launch Parabat 11 hit the trawler carrying Shahidul, which left him injured."

South Keraniganj police station OC Md Shah Zaman said: "We were informed about the incident and a team has been already sent.

"Details will be known after investigation."

The body was sent to the DMCH morgue, said Bachchu Mia, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost.
