2 killed in ‘gunfights’

One incident happened in Dhaka, the other in Sunamganj

Two suspected criminals were killed in separate incidents of alleged gunfights with law enforcement officials in Dhaka and Sunamganj, in the early hours of yesterday. 

In Dhaka, a suspected drug and arms dealer was killed in a reported gunfight with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Khilgaon area.

The incident took place in the Swadesh Property area of Khilgaon.

The deceased was Mizanur Rahman Mintu alias Megha Mintu, 34.

RAB (legal and media wing) Senior Assistant Director Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan told Dhaka Tribune: "Mintu died in a gunfight with a group of drug and arms dealers."

A RAB 1 official was also injured in the incident.

RAB recovered a gun, two shotguns, 10 cartridges and a large number of yaba pills from the spot as well, the RAB official added. 

In Sunamganj, a suspected leader of a robbery gang was killed in an alleged gunfight  with police at Bhuingaon area in Chhatak, Sunamganj. Three policemen were injured as well. 

Confirming the matter, Chhatak police station OC Mostafa Kamal said the deceased was identified as Lakandar Ali, 34, from Ziapur-Habipur village in Singchapoir union. 

“The gunfight with a  gang of robbers took place around 1am. We later recovered Lakandar’s body from the scene,” the OC said. 

Police sent the dead body to Sunamganj Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
