The speakers demand a national reimbursement scale for laborers who suffer incidents like Tazreen tragedy
A group of labor leaders and activists of rights bodies has demanded speedy trial of those responsible for the Tazreen Fashions factory tragedy.
They made the statement while placing wreaths on the graves of the people who lost their lives in the devastating incident, in Dhaka's Jurain on Sunday.
The members also demanded proper compensation and rehabilitation of the survivors.
They said: "All workers should be brought under labor law regardless of their formal or informal association to any party.”
"We also demand a national reimbursement scale for laborers who suffer such incidents."
The activists further wanted specialized hospital and units reserved for workers who experience tragedies like Tazreen Fashions Factory.
Labor leaders and activists of rights bodies' convener Dr Hamida Hossain, President of Bills and Member Coordinator of Labor Employees Unity Council (SCOP) Mesbahuddin Ahmed, President of the Socialist Workers Front Rajekuzzaman Ratan, President of National Workers' Alliance Bangladesh Saifuzzaman Badshah, Secretary of Bills Najma Yasmin, and Labor leaders and activists of rights bodies' acting secretary member Sekandar Ali Mina joined the commemoration.
On November 24, 2012, a massive fire raged through Tazreen Fashions Limited in Ashulia on the outskirts of Dhaka, killing at least 112 workers and injuring more than 200 others.
