Barkat Ullah, slain Abrar’s father, also expressed his satisfaction over the speed of the proceedings of the case filed over the killing of his son
Law Minister Anisul Huq on Thursday assured Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad’s father that the trial of his son's murder will be put through the speedy trial tribunal for swift proceedings.
While talking to Dhaka Tribune, Barkat Ullah, slain Abrar’s father, confirmed the matter adding that upon the request of the minister, he would provide the names of two lawyers of his choice to be part of the prosecution team.
Quoting the minister he said: "The lawsuit will be transferred to the speedy tribunal after completion of formal proceedings through lower court and metropolitan court. The minister also assured us that the verdict of the case will be served within 120 days."
He also expressed his satisfaction over the speed of the proceedings of the case filed over the killing of his son.
A three-member delegation including Abrar’s father met the law minister at his Gulshan residential office around 12:30pm.
Law Minister Anisul Huq during a press briefing held after the meeting, said: "We mainly talked concerning the trial of the case at the lower court and he [Abrar's father] expressed his satisfaction regarding the overall proceedings. He also requested us to include two lawyers of their choice in the prosecution team, and we agreed.
"I informed him that we have already made a decision to hold this trial under speedy trial tribunal."
Abrar Fahad, a second-year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department in Buet, was beaten to death inside the university’s Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Several Chhatra League leaders have been accused of mercilessly torturing him for hours and beating him to death, after accusing him of being involved with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Later, Abrar's father Barkat Ullah filed a murder case against 19 people with the Chawkbazar police station.
