3 held with 2.56kg gold, 10 phones at Dhaka airport

They were detained by a Dhaka Customs House preventive team Friday morning

Dhaka Customs officials have detained three individuals with 2.56kg gold worth around Tk1.33 crore and 10 foreign mobile phones from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

They were detained by a Dhaka Customs House preventive team Friday morning.

The detainees are Aflatun Akhter Mukti, Kanika Hossain Jhunu, and Saiful Islam.

Assistant Commissioner (AC) Sazzad Hossain of Dhaka Customs House told Dhaka Tribune: "Acting on a tip-off, Customs officials took position at several points of the airport. 

"As the domestic flight passengers arrived from Sylhet, they were diligently searched, after which three passengers were detained when the team found the aforementioned items in their possession."

The three of them got on a Bangladesh Biman flight when it made a stopover in Sylhet after taking off from Muscat, Oman.

AC Sazzad said preparation is underway to take legal actions against them under Customs law and to hand them over to police.
