Dhanmondi murders: House help Shurovi confesses before court

After recording her statement, the court sent her to jail

Prime suspect housemaid Shurovi Akhter Nahida has confessed to her involvement in the murders of an elderly woman and another maid in a flat in Dhaka’s Dhanmondi area.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sharafuzzaman Ansari recorded her statement after Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Inspector Md Robiul Islam, also the investigation officer of the case, produced her before it on Thursday.

After recording her statement, the court sent her to jail, Sub Inspector Md Ashraf Ali, general recording officer of Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court said.

“The accused described the details about the murders,” he added.

Earlier on November 5, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Morshed Al Mamun Bhuiyan placed five people including Shurovi on five-day remand in the case.

The accused are: Housemaid Shurovi Akhter Nahida, guard Nuruzzaman, cleaner Gausul Azam Prince, personal staff Md Atikul Haque Bacchu and Belayet Hossain.

Earlier on November 1, police recovered throat-slit bodies of Afroza Begum, 65, and her house help Diti, 18, from flat E-5 of house-21 on road-28 in Dhanmandi area. 

Deceased's daughter advocate Dilruba Sultana Ruba filed the case with Dhanmandi police station on November 3.
