DNCRP conducted the drive on Monday
The Dhaka divisional office of Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) has fined three restaurants in Gulshan area for various irregularities.
In separate drives on Monday, led by its Deputy Director Monjur Mohammad Shahriar, DNCRP fined the Gulshan outlet of North End Coffee Roasters Tk1 lakh, Pizza Inn Tk20,000, and Horse And Horse restaurant Tk50,000.
In a Facebook post on the company's official page, North End Coffee Roasters Managing Director Rick Hubbard said: "Our Cityscape Tower café was searched by the Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) officials, and they found one packet of milk amongst all our milk that was frozen at the bottom of our freezer. This packet of expired milk was unopened and unused.”
"We were fined for this and they were right to do that. We accept responsibility for this,” he added.
When asked, Horse 'n Horse proprietor Mehreen Mansur said: “First of all, they claimed the one piece of burger bun was expired by one day. However, it was purchased fresh that day and it was the manufacturer date, not the expiry date. We tried to reason with them but they failed to understand the difference.”
“I had no idea we were going to be presented in the media in any bad light. We always keep our food fresh and hygienic. It's our top priority always and will continue to be,” she added.
Meanwhile, officials of Pizza Inn could not be reached despite several attempts.
