Chhatra Dal men go on hunger strike

The hunger strike began around 11am on Tuesday

Around 32 Chhatra Dal activists, student wing of BNP, are observing a sit-in hunger strike, demanding posts for the married members in its new council.

They began the strike on the ground floor of BNP's Naya Paltan head office around 11am on Tuesday.

Former Liberation War affairs assistant secretary Md Nizamuddin told Dhaka Tribune: "When the new Chhatra Dal council was formed, the top authorities demanded that the president and the general secretary be unmarried.

"There were no guidelines to ensure the position of the married activities - who have been working in Chhatra Dal for a long time."

He further said: "We demand that all our sacrifices and hard-work throughout the years are acknowledged by the committee and we are given of posts in council for that, irrespective of our marital status."
