A motorcyclist was killed and two others injured in a crash on the Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover in Dhaka in the wee hours of Thursday.

The accident took place near a turn, adjacent to the office of Rapid Action Battalion 3 and Rajdhani Super Market in Tikatuli area, on the flyover around 1:45am.

The deceased was identified as Kamruzzaman Hira, 25, and the injured were Sohel, 27, and Khadija, 25.

This correspondent, along with several passengers of another vehicle, found the three motorcycle riders lying in a jumbled state on the flyover after taking the aforementioned turn.

Kamruzzaman was killed on the spot. The two injured were rescued and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The left hand of the other male passenger appeared to be broken and haemorrhaging, while the woman suffered minor injuries.

After authorities were informed through emergency service hotline 999, first responders and officials from Wari police station arrived at the scene and took steps to take the body to DMCH.

The motorcycle was seen at least 20 to 30 yards away from where the victims were found lying.

Police and flyover maintenance staff at the scene said it would be possible to determine how the accident occurred after checking the footage of the flyover's CCTV cameras.

Wari police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Abul Kalam said an autopsy of Kamruzzaman’s body was scheduled at the DMC morgue.

“It’s possible that Kamruzzaman might have lost control of the motorcycle, but we are still investigating,” he added.
