They demand immediate end to the accommodation crisis at the university

Update : 17 Oct 2019, 04:17 PM

A group of Dhaka University (DU) students formed a human chain demanding legal seats at residential halls of the university as per their rights.

“A legal seat is an ensured right of a student from the very first year. However, we now have to protest against this repression as we cannot enjoy residential facilities,” Nahidul Islam, a third year student of sociology department, said while speaking at the protest held at Aparejo Bangla on Thursday.

At the protest, students under the banner “Legal seat is my right” placed a six-point demand which include: providing legal seat from the very first year and ending “guest room” culture, among others.

Meanwhile, left-leaning Chhatra Federation's DU unit Organizing Secretary Md Sajeeb said: “Students organizations loyal to the government maintain an environment of repression all the time in the dormitories to dominate students.”

He also demanded an immediate end to the accommodation crisis at the university.
