Two others were also injured in the incident
A teenage boy has been hacked to death by his cousin over an alleged family feud in the Uttarkhan area of Dhaka.
The boy died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while undergoing treatment on early Tuesday.
Two others - the deceased's brothers - were also injured in the incident that took place on Monday night.
The deceased is Riyad, 15, and the injured are Shamim, 25, and Rijon, 18, DMCH police outpost Sub-Inspector Bachchu Miah told Dhaka Tribune.
The perpetrator Swapan, around 30, is the son of Riyad's paternal uncle.
According to the deceased's uncle Momen Hossain and brother Shamim, the incident occurred on Monday night, when an argument ensued between Swapan and Shamim. At one stage of the conflict, Swapan started beating his cousin, when his brothers came to his rescue.
At one point, Swapan found a cleaver and started hacking at the three of them repeatedly. Hearing their screams, locals and family members went to the spot and took them to a local hospital, while Swapan managed to flee the scene.
Critically injured Riyad was taken to DMCH later at night, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Momen and Shamim both claimed that Swapan was a drug addict. Both of them had maintained there was a family conflict involving land and properties between Riyad and Swapan's fathers, who are brothers.
The family claimed that Uttarkhan police station Sub-Inspector Ishtiaque detained the perpetrator Swapan, but released him from police custody after some time.
SI Bachchu Miah said Riyad's body has been kept at DMCH morgue for autopsy.
