Students of Brac University have held a protest in Dhaka demanding justice for the murder of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) student Abrar Fahad.
Over a hundred students of Brac University formed a human chain in front of the university's Building No 1 at Mohakhali around 12:30pm on Sunday.
At the beginning of the program, they prayed for the departed soul of Abrar. They also conveyed their deepest sympathy to the deceased family.
The students also expressed solidarity with the 10-point demands put forth by the protesting Buet students.
Brac University student Shahriar Nasif said: "We demand justice for Abrar and highest punishment for the culprits. Today, we gathered here for our brother who was brutally murdered just for speaking his mind. We do not want such incident to happen to anyone, ever.
"We need to be more aware about the extreme effects of ragging and bullying, particularly in educational institutions. We have to collectively work towards a society which will be free of such malpractices," he added.
Abrar Fahad, a second year student of electrical and electronic engineering department, was tortured to death inside the university's Sher-e-Bangla Hall in the early hours of October 7.
Some Chhatra League leaders have been accused of beating him to death, for his alleged involvement with Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami.
Abrar's father filed a murder case against 19 people with Chawkbazar police station on October 7 evening.
