Article 19 mourns death of journalist Dil Monowara Monu

Monu joined journalism as a sub-editor of ‘Begum’ in 1974

Article 19 has mourned the passing away of Dil Monowara Monu, a senior journalist and former executive editor of the fortnightly feminist magazine “Ananya.”

The international human rights organization issued a press release in this regard on Monday.

Article 19 Regional Director (Bangladesh and South Asia) Faruq Faisel, in the release, said Dil Monwara Monu, through her four decade long career, has left a rich legacy which will inspire women journalists in the country for years to come.

Monu, also a women journalist leader, died at the Bangladesh Institute of Research and Rehabilitation in Diabetes, Endocrine and Metabolic Disorders (Birdem) Hospital in the early hours of Monday.

She was the vice-president of the Women's Journalist Center and the Media Secretary of the Central Committee of the Bangladesh Mahila Parishad. 

She was also associated with various organizations including the Central Kichikachar Mela, Breaking the Silence, and others. 

Monu joined journalism as a sub-editor of "Begum" in 1974.

In 1988, she joined fortnightly "Anannya" where she served as the magazine's executive editor for 25 years.

Dil Monowara Monu took active part in many Article 19 initiatives and activities.
