Committee: Abrar's murder is a brutal blow to freedom of speech

The use of force against dissent, political mismanagement, irresponsibility, and impunity is the result of Abrar's "brutal murder", the responsibility for which cannot be avoided by the university administration, the government, and its political leaders, said Fundamental Rights Protection Committee . 

The Fundamental Rights Protection Committee feels that the constitutional right of people's freedom of expression, and dissent are constantly being constrained. We are concerned about obtaining a fair trial of Abrar's murder since there were no proper and appropriate trials for most of the university-centred killings earlier.

We want the law enforcers to properly conduct investigations, and file the charge sheet in the name of the real culprits. Due to the negligence of law enforcement and state parties during a trial, the administration, and the judiciary must be vigilant to ensure that trial is not delayed, and the actual culprits would not be released.

In the past few years, there has been numerous litigation for the constitutional recognition of thought, conscience, and freedom of expression. Critics and dissenters have been ridiculed in different ways by the image. 

Many lawsuits have been filed illegally against the country's leading editors for slightly contradictory statements, and the latest Digital Security Act-23 almost abolished the freedom to review, criticize, or disagree with the state authorities.

We believe that this unconstitutional stance continuously supporting the autocracy of the student body of the ruling party has resulted in the brutal "murder by torture" of Abar. In this context, the Committee for the Protection of Fundamental Rights is calling on the ruling authorities to refrain from imposing sanctions on their so-called opponents is criminally illegal, and unlawful, Iftekharuzzaman said.
