Tk4 relief for each households in 2 districts

The research found lack of budget allocation for relief where a range of Tk20-Tk772 were allocated for each household in 28 flood-affected districts

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has said there are households of two districts in the flood affected areas that on an average received Tk4 in relief.

The research findings were unveiled at a press conference organized by TIB at Dhaka’s Midas Centre on Sunday.

TIB Executive Director Dr Iftekharuzzaman said: “We found irregularities and corruption. Less than allocated relief was distributed. Public representatives have not done their duties properly.”

The research found lack of budget allocation for relief where a range of Tk20-Tk772 were allocated for each household in 28 flood-affected districts.

Schooling activities suspended due to flood waters in Kurigram |Dhaka TribuneHowever, according to the research findings, households in Noakhali district's Companiganj and Kurigram's Ulipur upazila received Tk4 as relief, Jamalpur's Islampur and Dewanganj upazilas received Tk76 and Tk15 respectively, Bogra's Sonatola and Sariakandi Tk15 and Tk26 respectively, Kurigram's Chilmari Tk39, and Barguna's Fuljhuri Tk18. 

The research was conducted by TIB Deputy Program Manager (good governance and climate fund) Md Newazul Moula, Program Manager (climate fund policy and integrity) Md Mahfuzul Haque, Assistant Program Manager (research and policy) Amit Sarker, Senior Program Manager (research and policy) ASM Jewel, and Senior Program Manager (good governance and climate fund) M Zakir Hossain Khan.  

Researchers were present at the press conference as well and presented their research findings.
