Rohingya NID fraud: CTTC detains EC technical expert in Dhaka

Shahanur was apprehended from the Election Commission Building on Monday afternoon

An official of the Election Commission (EC) has been detained for allegedly enrolling Rohingyas in the electoral roll. 

The detainee is Shahanur Mia, a technical expert at National Identity Registration Wing of the EC.

A team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) apprehended Shahanur from the Election Commission office at Agargaon in Dhaka on Monday afternoon.  

Abdul Baten, director (operations) of the National Identity Registration Wing, confirmed the incident. 

CMP CTTC Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahidullah said: "Based on a tip off, a team of counter terrorism held Shahanur in Dhaka. The team is on the way to Chittagong."

According to the Election Commission, as many as 61 Rohingyas were attempted to be enrolled in the electoral roll in the latest voter update.
