It is one in a long string of events to protest against repression of women and children
Naripokkho, a women's activist organization, organized a sit-in strike protesting against sexual harassment and rape in different places of Dhaka.
Under the banner of "No more sexual harassment! We are against rape, sexual harassment and all sorts of violence", the organization held its activities at the Bahadur Shah Park in Puran Dhaka and other nearby zones on Tuesday.
Naripokkho also shouted slogans, distributed leaflets and organized musical events as part of its activities. Some of the protesters also dressed as Nusrat, who died after she was set on fire by followers of her sexual harasser, by wrapping them with bandages.
To protect women and children from the existing culture of repression, different organizations have been holding protest activities since September 3. Naripokkho's event was one in the long string of events.
The organizations plan to instigate a countrywide protest by November 25, the international "Protest Against Women's Torture" day, by hosting different programs throughout the country, one in 15 days, for the next three months.
In Tuesday's program, Naripokkho's protest secretary Afsana Chowdhury and documentation official Monisha Mazumder distributed leaflets.
Students of Jagannath University, Kabi Nazrul Govt College, Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigoshthi, ActionAid, Ulkanari, and other organizations also participated in the event.
