A student of Banophool Adibashi Green Heart College was injured after jumping off a building inside his college campus at Dhaka’s Mirpur-13.
The incident took place around 11:30am on Monday.
Sources said Shahriar Alam Akash, 19, an HSC second year student at the college, jumped from the building after his teachers reportedly abused him and his guardians, after he failed an examination.
Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Selimuzzaman said: “Akash is receiving treatment at the National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital in Agargaon.”
“We heard that, after the incident rumors spread in the college that the student had died from the fall. Later, other students started protesting, and vandalized window glasses, and private cars belonging to college authorities. The agitating students also brought out a protest rally outside the campus,” he added.
“The situation has been brought under control,” he said.
“We are yet to talk with the injured student, as he is admitted to the hospital. We are trying to talk to the college authority to ascertain the actual facts behind the incident,” he added.
