'Recovering footpaths from illegal occupants will be a challenging job'

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said the city corporation will start eviction drives in areas under its jurisdiction from September 20 aiming to recover city footpaths from illegal occupants.

“Recovering footpaths from illegal occupants will be a challenging job,” he said while speaking at a function, arranged by DNCC, at Gabtoli Kitchen Market on Thursday.

“I’ve already talked to Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam in this regard. We want people to walk through footpaths and vehicles to move on roads,” Atiq added while seeking cooperation of all in conducting eviction drives to recover footpaths.

The DNCC mayor said the local government and the city corporations are constructing footpaths in the capital, but most of those are being occupied, which is a matter of regret.
