The party's senior member Kazi Feroz Rashid made the announcement in the evening at a press briefing at its chairman's office in Dhaka
A faction of the Jatiya Party, said to be the followers of GM Quader, has reappointed GM Quader as the chairman of the party.
The party's senior member Kazi Feroz Rashid made the announcement in the evening at a press briefing at its chairman's office in Dhaka.
He briefed journalists after holding a joint meeting of the party presidium members, and the lawmakers in presence of the chairman.
Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu also attended the briefing.
Feroz Rashid said those who have declared Raushan Ershad as party chairman have breached the party constitution. He also accused them of spreading confusion among supporters, and its leaders as well.
The lawmaker also warned these people saying that action will be taken against those who are spreading such confusion among the partymen.
He emphasized on the fact that there is no scope of creating any confusion as the party accepted him as the new chairman, and the opposition leader of the parliament in a meeting held on August 17.
He, however, alleged that the party constitution did not mention about any meeting of the parliamentary committee. And the founder of the party also did not hold any such meeting.
Presidium member and former general secretary of the party Zia Uddin Ahmed Bablu said that former president HM Ershad had announced his younger brother GM Quader as the chairman following the party constitution.
Anybody who declares anyone else as the chairman has done an illegal act, he said adding: "The persons who did not protest it also breached the party constitution."
He also voiced for taking action against those who made the undemocratic announcement.
"Jatiya Party is a party, and its chairman is GM Quader," he said.
Before the parliamentary board meeting, the chairman interviewed the aspirants for the Rangpur-3 constituency.
JaPa Organizing Secretary Monirul Islam Milon said that another meeting was started around 8pm to discuss about possible action against those who have breached the party law.
Milon also said that some activists of the Kazi Jafar fraction will formally announce their support for GM Quader on Saturday.
