DU Ruqayyah Hall students accuse Chhatra League, provost of ‘recruitment business’

A group of students from Dhaka University’s Ruqayyah Hall have accused the hall authorities and hall union leaders of “recruitment businesses” to appoint cleaners and security guards.

Srabona Shafiq Dipti, a masters student of disaster management and vulnerable studies, raised the allegation in a press conference held at Dhaka University Journalists' Association office on Tuesday afternoon.

Addressing the press conference, Dipti alleged that Ruqayyah Hall Union Vice President (VP) Ishrat Jahan,General Secretary Sayma Promi and other hall Chhatra League leaders had taken around Tk21 lakh from three individuals to recruit candidates for the posts.

Dipti also claimed that she had received an audio clip of the two parties regarding the scam.

She also alleged that Hall Provost Prof Zeenat Huda was also involved in the process.

Hall Union VP Ishrat Jahan denied the allegation, terming it baseless, saying Dipti was serving a personal vendetta.

Prof Zeenat Huda could not be reachedfor a comment over mobile phone, despite several attempts.

Chhatra League’s DU unit General Secretary and Dhaka University Central Students' Union Assistant General Secretary (AGS) Md Saddam Hussain said: "We will show zero tolerance against any kind of corruption. And if the accusedare found guilty, Chhatra League will take organizational steps against them."
