Awami League-led 14-Party Alliance spokesperson Mohammad Nasim has said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina mainly gave shelter to the displaced Rohingyas, as part of her humanitarian duty, and they have to return to their own country.

Nasim, also the Awami League presidium member, said this at a discussion, held for mourning National Awami Party (NAP) president professor Muzaffar Ahmed, at the Institution of Diploma Engineers in Dhaka on Monday.

Executive President Sharif Nurul Ambia of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal chaired the event.

Nasim also said: “It is time for Myanmar to take back their citizens.”

Muzaffar, who was part of the wartime Bangladeshi government and a close friend of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, died at the age of 98, at a hospital in the capital on August 23.

The 14-party alliance arranged the discussion to remember Muzaffar’s role during the Liberation War.

Nasim, former minister for Health and Family Welfare, also said, the Rohingya crisis was not a political one.

He said: “Please stop plotting conspiracies regarding the Rohingyas. We need to be united to solve the problem.”

He further urged all to unite in order to prevent the Rohingya militancy crisis.

Remembering Muzaffar’s roles during the Liberation War, Nasim said: “Muzaffar Ahmed was a real patriot, and we got the independence as we had leaders like him beside Bangabandhu.”

He also said  that left-wing parties of Bangladesh have to be united for the sake of the country.

Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (Jasad) President Hasanul Haq Inu, while addressing the discussion, said: “It is quite impossible to bring success until be become united.”

The former information minister added: “We achieved independence back in 1971 because we were united back then. Sheikh Hasina’s call for a grand unity can make Bangladesh the ‘Sonar Bangla’ we all desire.”

Bangladesh Communist Party Adviser Monjur Ahmed, Syed Abul Maksud,  Rashed Khan Menon, Dilip Barua spoke at the event, among others.
