Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said Bangladesh is ready to face any situation that may arise regarding the Assam issue
“Bangladesh is ready to face any situation that may arise regarding the Assam issue. We do not want to rage war against anyone. We want to establish peace,” he said, while speaking at the ministry’s meeting room at the Secretariat on Sunday.
“The Assam issue is India’s internal matter. Of those who have been left out, 60% are Hindu while the rest are Muslim. Although there is scope for an appeal in that issue, we are actively monitoring the situation,” Obaidul, also the general secretary of the ruling Awami League, said.
On questions on whether disowning 1.9 million people in Assam, following the influx of 1.2 million Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh, is part of any conspiracy against the country, the minister said: “It can be a conspiracy. Bangladesh’s economic development can be a reason for envy by many. Bangladesh has the highest GDP growth rate in South Asia.
