The arrested criminals confessed their crime during primary interrogation
The members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives have arrested nine hoodlums, who have been engaged in extorting money from people by calling, and threatening them over mobile phones.
The RAB conducted two drives- one in the capital, and another in Madaripur district from Saturday to Sunday morning, said MD. Mozammel Haque, Commanding Officer of Rab-4 while briefing media on Sunday.
The arrested are: Zamal Sheikh, 43; Mintu Khan, 35; Robiul Islam, 34; Sohel Howlader, 26; Rakib Khan Titul, 34; Billal Khan, 35; Shamim Khan, 19; Abdul Momin, 28; and Rabbi Hossain, 24. Of them, 7 are from Madaripur.
The arrested criminals confessed their crime during primary interrogation.
Mozammel Haque said, the thugs used to collect detailed information of the targeted victims, and called them from unregistered SIM cards introducing themselves as the members of terror group, but they have no connection with any terror group, he said.
“They threatened to kill people or abduct their children, unless they [victims] send them money through mobile banking,” he furthered.
Some victims were also present during the briefing.
Atik Nawaz, brother of a victim, said that they paid money to the criminals out of fear as they appeared to know much personal information about them.
“Introducing themselves as members of Purbo Komola Communist Party, they demanded Tk50 thousand from my brother, otherwise they threatened to abduct our children,” said Atik Nawaz.
