Nur allegedly attacked by ruling party members on August 14 in Patuakhali

Several Dhaka University (DU) students condemned the attack on Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice-President Nurul Haque Nur by ruling party members.

They demanded exemplary punishment of the alleged ruling party men on Tuesday who attacked VP Nur on August 14 in Patuakhali district while he was going to his sister’s house.

The demands came from a human chain at the base of Aparajeyo Bangla under the banner of General Students of DU.

Md Nahid Islam, a third year student of Sociology department said: “We want the safety of the Ducsu VP. No further attacks will be tolerated.”

Nur survived the attacks

Nur said he was attacked on August 14 by ruling party members at Galachipa upazila’s Ulania Bazar in Patuakhali while going to his sister’s house in Dashmina upazila.

He alleged that Galachipa Upazila Parishad Chairman Shahin Shah led the attack at the behest of Patuakhali 3 MP SM Shahjada Saju, who is the nephew of Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda.

Nur claimed: “They attacked us with steel chains, and locally available sharp weapons. They also barred us from receiving treatment at the local hospital.”

“We had suspected the attack was coming, and sought help from the police. But the Galachipa police station OC did not cooperate with us.”

The Ducsu VP went on to seek justice from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in this regard.
