Probe committee to reveal responsible people within a week

Clashes between nurses and staff at the pathology department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) have left over 10 people injured.

The Sunday noon incident took place in the new building of the DMCH over a pathology report. More clashes took place in front of the director's office. Tension still remains among both of the sides regarding the incident.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune DMCH police outpost Inspector Md Bachchu Mia said: "The clash was an internal matter of the pathology department. The hospital director is looking into the matter."

Pathology Department Staff Foyez said: "Some nurses came to collect pathological reports around 1pm without disclosing their identity. They attacked me when there was a little delay in providing the report. A clash took place then and there.

"When our departmental chair, Dr Abul Aziz, came forward, they even attacked him. They then went away, later coming back in more number, and attacked us again."

However, President of Nurses Association, Kamal Patwary, had a different version of what happened.

"They held and attacked some of our nurses over a frivolous matter. Later, the staff attacked us repeatedly. We demand that the attackers be prosecuted," he said.

Regarding the matter, hospital director, Brig Gen AKM Nasir Uddin, said: "We sat down with both the parties regarding this unexpected incident. This took place due to a misunderstanding."

He added: "We have settled the matter and have formed a probe committee to look into it. They will deliver a report within a week. Those responsible will be punished accordingly."
