Atiqul: Basic supports for slum fire victims till rehabilitation

DNCC supplied nearly 22,000 gallons of water, a tower light and a group of medical teams at the scene after the fire

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam has said all the basic assistance will be given to fire victims of Jhilpar slum in Mirpur 7 of Dhaka, which broke out on Friday evening, leaving thousands of people homeless.

“All basic  needs for the homeless people will continue till their rehabilitation,” he said at a press briefing after visiting the slum area on Saturday.

The mayor also visited the temporary shelter centre at Bangabandhu Bidiyaniketan in Mirpur, and ensured proper supply of food, drinking water, and mobile toilets for them.

“Following the direction of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, permanent establishments are being erected at Baunia embankment for the slum people,” said the DNCC mayor.

He also enquired about the medical facilities including the availability of doctors, nurses and patients at the DNCC health camp.
