Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tazul Islam has asked engineers to give up corruption and work together with a view to building the nation.

The minister made the remark at a seminar titled "Waterlogging in Dhaka megacity and effective steps to solution" at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh in Dhaka on Monday.

He said : "Box culvert is responsible for Dhaka’s waterlogging. The World Bank financed to make these culverts, though it failed to finance such a project in Singapore, Malaysia and other countries of the world. Engineers played a role behind building the box culverts in Dhaka."

The minister urged the engineers to give positive suggestions.

"Give up personal interest in any project and work for the betterment of the country. Do not commit corruption. Finish a project in due time so that future generation can remember you in good memories,"  Tazul said.

"We cannot build our drainage system similar to the United States or other countries. We will build in a way which is appropriate for our environment," he added.

IEB President Abdus Sabur, General Secretary Khandker Manjur Morshed were the special guests while IEB's Dhaka centre Chairman Md Waliullah Sikder presided over the seminar.
