Stern action will be taken against those involved in extortion, he said
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that the government will not tolerate any kind of extortion at Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar area.
The minister came up with the warning while addressing a cleanliness drive on Sunday.
Issuing a warning to extortionists, the minister said: “I clearly said if you (extortionists) do not stop extortion then you must leave Karwan Bazar. No one involved in criminal activities and extortion will be allowed there.
“Stern action will be taken against those involved in extortion.”
Before the Awami League came to power, at least one murder used to take place every month at Karwan Bazar, the minister said.
“But, it has stopped now, following the government’s initiatives,” he added.
