2 university students die of dengue

One was a student of Jahangirnagar University while the other was from Dhaka University

Two university students died of dengue fever in Dhaka, and Chittagong cities.

U Khein Nu, a first-year student of Pharmacy department of Jahangirnagar University (JU), died of dengue fever at her home in Chittagong yesterday, said Professor Dr. Pijus Saha of her department.

Khein, daughter of Cox's Bazar Zilla Parishad officer Mangba Aung Mangba, breathed her last at 5 pm on the way to Chittagong, for better treatment from Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

U Khein, a resident student of Pritilata Hall, was first admitted to JU Medical Centre with a fever. After her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to a hospital in Savar a few days ago. Later, she returned to her home in Chittagong, her classmate Rifat said.

Earlier on Friday night, Firoz Kabir, a student of Finance department of Dhaka University (DU) died of dengue fever at a private hospital in Dhaka.

Firoz, hailing from Thakurgaon, was also a resident student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall of the university, reports UNB.

Hall Provost Prof Mofizur Rahman confirmed the death saying that Firoz was first admitted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) with dengue fever.

Later, he was shifted to a private hospital where he breathed his last at around 10pm, he added.

Iqbal Hossain, a friend of Firoz, and also a student of Finance Department, said Firoz had been undergoing treatment at DMCH’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) for a week. He was shifted to Square Hospital on Thursday.
