Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested four people for mugging a policeman after picking him up in a private car, pretending to be a drop off service.

The arrestees are – Bajlu Alamgir, Md Masum Billah, Md Mukhtar Hossain, and Md Ali.

Police arrested the four men from different areas of Dhaka on Friday night. At that time, one private car, three knives, several sticks, and rods, were recovered from their possession. Based on information, a television, a mobile phone, and a police uniform were also recovered.

DB Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam confirmed the matter at a press briefing yon saturday.

On July 17, a police Sub-Inspector KM Nur-E-Alam was about to leave for his natal home in Netrokona with a LED TV, a mobile phone, his police uniform, and some cash money from Dhaka’s Mohakhali area, he said.

Around 1:30am, a private car stopped in-front of him, and the driver offered to take him to Netrokona for Tk300.

When Nur got into the car, two others got in after him, and tied his eyes and hands. Later, they looted and beat him, and threw him off the vehicle, said JC Mahbub.

He also said that Nur filed a case with Banani police station on July 26. The DB shadow investigated the matter alongside the police, and arrested the four people in connection with the incident.

The DB official urged the people to remain vigilant to avoid such incidents. “No one should take rides from unknown people,” he said.
