Monsoon hits city life

Since Monday morning, students, office-goers and people from all walks of life were seen having much difficulty in finding transports for their destinations

Hours of monsoon rain have taken a toll on city life as the downpour created havoc for commuters and pedestrians from all walks of life in Dhaka.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), Dhaka experienced 15 millimeters (mm) of rainfall with winds blowing southeasterly at 10-15kph till Monday morning. The highest rainfall of the day was recorded in Rangamati at 170mm.

Weather report says, the axis of monsoon trough runs through Rajsthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal to Assam across central part of Bangladesh. One of its associated depressions extends up to North Bay. The monsoon remains active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.

Under its influence, light to moderate rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind occured at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Barishal, Chattogram, & Sylhet divisions and at many places over Khulna division with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over the country.
