'We can't compromise on the issues of values, as well as the spirit of the Liberation War'
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the party will not give membership to war criminals and anti-liberation forces.
"Those who believe in anti-Liberation War ideals and communal politics cannot be the members of Awami League. No one of the anti-liberation element will be allowed to become member of the ruling party,” he said.
The minister made the remark in response to reporters’ queries while exchanging greetings with the newly-elected executive committee members of Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF), at his secretariat office in Dhaka. A fresh drive for selecting members will begin from July 21, reports UNB.
“We can't compromise on the issues of values, as well as the spirit of the Liberation War,” he added.
Quader also denied saying that it would not be a problem to become an Awami League member if anyone in the membership seeker’s family is a war criminal or Jamaat member.
"I cannot make such a statement. Our stance is very clear, and Awami League is in favour of the Liberation War, the ideology of independence, values of Liberation War, and the spirit of Bangladesh's birth," he said.
