The government has set Tk975 for double burners from Tk800, and Tk925 for single burner from Tk750
Leaders of the Samajtantrik Majdur Party (SMP) have demanded cancellation of the recent price hike for gas saying the move will cause immense suffering to the country’s poor to middle class.
“Garments workers and their 20 million family members, 30 million families of the unemployed population, poor and lower middle class will suffer immensely from the gas price hike,” the party’s central committee member Shirajul Islam said at a human chain in front of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) in the capital on Monday.
The government has set Tk975 for double burners from Tk800, and Tk925 for single burner from Tk750 with effect from July 1.
“BERC has failed to show any rationality in the favour of gas price hike at their public hearing. Berc is in profit, they raised the gas prices only to give benefits to LNG, LPG and other related companies from home and abroad," he added.
Leaders from several leftist parties also spoke at the human chain.
