President to NHRC: Pay special attention to rights of the underprivileged

The human rights issue is related to almost all the SDGs, he said

President Abdul Hamid has asked the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to pay special attention to protecting human rights of the underprivileged and physically challenged people.

He made the call when an eight-member NHRC delegation, led by its Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque, submitted the annual report of 2018 to the president at Bangabhaban on Wednesday, reports UNB.

President's Press Secretary Joynal Abedin briefed reporters after the meeting.

"The human rights issue is related to almost all the goals of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). If we want to achieve the SDGs, human rights must be ensured," the president said.

NHRC Chairman Reazul apprised the president of different activities of the commission.

He also sought Hamid's all-out cooperation, including the construction of the commission's permanent office.

NHRC members M Nazrul Islam, Nurun Naher Osmani, Enamul Hoque Chowdhury and Prof Akhter Hussain attended the meeting.

Secretaries concerned to Bangabhaban were also present at the meeting.
