His condition is not well, JaPa's acting chairman said
Jatiya Party (JaPa) Chairman HM Ershad has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Combined Military Hospital (CMH) inside Dhaka Cantonment.
He was admitted on Wednesday, said JaPa’s acting Chairman GM Quader.
Ershad’s younger brother Quader confirmed the matter during a conference at Motijheel.
After a visit to CMH on Wednesday morning, Quader said that Ershad’s health condition is not good.
“Ershad is under close surveillance at the hospital’s CCU,” he said.
"Everyone is questioning how the party will run after his [Ershad's] demise," Quader said. "I say, the party will run following the path showed by our party chief, to establish democracy in the country."
He added: "It was easier for us to achieve something by his name. But if something happens, we need to achieve everything on our own."
Personal secretary to the chairman told Dhaka Tribune that Ershad goes to CMH for regular checkups.
A few months earlier, Ershad was flown to Singapore for treatment. After he returned, his treatment continued at CMH, said Quader.
While he was undergoing treatment in Singapore, he had been suffering from liver failure and haemoglobin anomaly, said his relatives and party members.
After returning from Singapore, Ershad announced GM Quader as acting chairman.
Ershad was elected Member of Parliament from Rangpur 3 in the 11th general election, and he is currently the leader of opposition party in the parliament.
