Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested three people for reportedly killing a youth in Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area.

Based on a tip-off, RAB conducted a raid in Uttarkhan on Monday night, and arrested three men in connection with the murder of Shakib Hossain, said RAB 1 commanding officer Lt Col Md Sarwar-Bin-Kashem in a press briefing on Tuesday.

The arrested are Shahin Mia, 24, Monjurul Islam, 24, and Forhad Hossen, 26.

He said that the victim came to visit Dhaka’s Uttarkhan area on June 15.

Quoting Shahin, the RAB official said a group of six to seven people, including Shahin, tried to snatch mobile phone, and money from Shakib, 20, and his friend Shipon Mia, 19, in Batulia area of Uttarkhan, on the evening of June 15.

Shahin stabbed Shakib and Shipon with a sharp knife as they protested the mugging, he said.

“They wanted the money to buy yaba pills,” said the RAB official.

During primary interrogation, they confessed to their crime, he said.

Critically injured, the two victims were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared Shakib dead, he added.

A case was filed against seven to eight unnamed people with Uttarkhan police station a day after the incident.
