Cause of fire yet to be known

Firefighters have doused a blaze that erupted at a refuelling station at the capital’s Kallyanpur area on Tuesday afternoon.

A total of 10 firefighting units rushed to the scene, and brought the flames under control after a 40-minute long effort.

Talking to Dhaka Tribune, Adabar police station OC SM Kawser Ahmed said the fire reportedly broke out from an oil tank lorry at Sahil Filling Station at around 5:25pm. No casualties were reported as people inside the filling station managed to come out before fire went deadly.

“The cause of the fire, and the amount of damage in the incident will be known after we receive the report,” Rasel Shikder, control room duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters, told Dhaka Tribune.

Meanwhile, the blaze created panic among locals in the area, and caused a traffic jam on the road adjacent to the refuelling station. Additional members from the police have been deployed there to control the situation.
