Armed Police Battalion (APBn) personnel have arrested two Rohingyas with 9,000 yaba pills at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

The arrestees are Myanmar citizens Nazrul Islam, 46 and Mohammad Zubair, 22 – who had illegally obtained Bangladeshi citizenship and national identification cards.

Airport Armed Police Additional Superintendent of Police (Ops and Media) Alamgir Hossain confirmed that both of them were arrested with Bangladeshi citizenship identification cards.

He said Nazrul Islam and Mohammad Zubair were suspiciously roaming outside the airport's internal terminal at 9pm on Wednesday.

Alamgir said: “Members of Armed Police Battalion followed their suspicious movements."

He added: "The police received confusing and suspicious information from them while speaking to the duo, and later, both of them were searched and interrogated in the custody of the Armed Police.”

“Both of them admitted that they had yaba pills in their stomachs. They had swallowed about 9,000 yaba tablets—worth Tk45 lakh—wrapped in black tape,” Alamgir explained.

A case has been filed against both of them under drug control laws at the Airport Police station.
