Police are examining the item found inside the administration building

Police recovered a bomb-like object at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Thursday morning.

Police were called on to the campus after reports of a suspicious bomb-like object (bottle) filled with petrol was found in front of the registrar’s room at the second floor of the university’s administrative building.

Shahbagh police told Dhaka Tribune that law enforcement officers were contacted Thursday morning.

“Whether it (bomb-like object) is a threat and the intent behind making it is being examined by bomb disposal experts,” said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hassan of Shahbagh police station.

He said: “It is too early make any comments over the bomb-like object but detectives at this stage are not ruling out anything. A full and thorough investigation is likely to reveal who and what was the intent behind it.”

Early views of investigators are that the bomb-like object is not linked to any terrorist motive, or otherwise.

Police is yet to arrest anyone in connection to the incident.
