DNCC mayor inaugurates Kalshi-Baunia bypass drain

DNCC spent Tk 5.5 crore to construct the 1188 meter drain

Update : 01 Jun 2019, 10:59 PM

Mayor Atiqul Islam of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), inaugurated a bypass drainage canal from Kalshi to Baunia in Dhaka on Saturday.

DNCC spent Tk 5.5 crore to construct the 1188 meter drain.

“The bypass drain has been constructed to preventing water-logging in and around the Kalshi area and to mitigate the suffering of people, but it is not a permanent solution,” the mayor said.

Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (Wasa) and other concerned authorities will undertake more sustainable projects to address water logging problems in all DNCC areas, according to Mayor Atiqul.

Mayor Atiqul Islam said DNCC has removed at least 80 trucks of dirt from the Kalshi canal.

“The authorities recovered a lot of waste like mosquito nets and even furniture while cleaning the Kalshi canal.”

He urged residents of the area not to throw any waste in the canal and not to use it as a dustbin.

“After Eid, drives will be launched to free all the footpaths from illegal occupation in DNCC areas,” the mayor added.

In an earlier initiative taken up by Mayor Atiqul Islam, DNCC has already cleaned the Sangbadik Colony (Kalshi) canal and Muslim Bazar area, under the jurisdiction of Dhaka Wasa.
