Gas pipelines are due to be replaced on Wednesday

Parts of northern Dhaka—and a vast majority of the industrial district of Joydebpur—will experience a gas outage from 6am to 3pm on Wednesday.

As a consequence of gas pipelines being replaced, both residential and commercial subscribers in the capital's outskirts of the Uttara, Jowarsahara, and Baridhara DOHS areas, are expected to be hit with low pressure of gas supplies.

The gas supply to all industrial units and CNG refilling stations—that fall between the Joydebpur intersection and Banani rail crossing—will remain suspended, reads a press release of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd (TGTDCL).

Talking to the media, Director (operations) of a state-run gas distribution company, Mohammad Kamruzzaman, said it is time-consuming to replace gas pipelines.

"It was supposed to be completed by Monday, May 27," the director said. "However, due to some extenuating circumstances, it will be completed on Wednesday."

He added: "We need to suspend the gas supply while we are shifting pipelines. It will be resumed as soon as the work is done."

According to the press release, gas pipeline replacement work is expected to be carried out near Shahid Ramizuddin School and College in the underpass project's alignment.
