Police and the Dhaka Shishu Hospital authorities have handed over the newborn baby, who was abandoned in a toilet of the hospital, to a government shelter in Azimpur, Dhaka.
Janey Alom Munshi, OC of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station, confirmed to Dhaka Tribune that the newborn baby girl had been handed over to Chhotomoni Nibash, a government shelter for lost and abandoned kids, around 12:30pm on Thursday.
Many people came forward to adopt the newborn baby, but the matter of her custody will be determined by the court, he said.
Acting director of Dhaka Shishu Hospital Dr Farid Ahmed told reporters that they have filed a general diary (GD) with the concerned police station regarding the matter.
The baby is in good health and has no problems, he added.
The custody of the baby will be determined by the court and they have no authority to keep her with them, he said.
Polly Begum, a woman who found the baby, previously took care of the newborn when she was admitted in the hospital.
