Workers of Latif Bawani Jute Mills and Karim Jute Mills remove their blockade around 1pm on Tuesday

Jute mill workers who were demonstrating  in Jatrabari and Demra for their outstanding wages have removed their blockade.

The workers of Latif Bawani Jute Mills and Karim Jute Mills in Demra removed their blockade around 1pm on Tuesday.

Before that, they removed their blockade from Jatrabari at 11 am the same day.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Demra police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Shadat said: "The workers of the two jute mills—Latif Bawani Jute Mills and Karim Jute Mills—had blocked the Jatrabari road on Tuesday morning. We talked to them. Higher officials have assured the workers that their demands will be met. Thus they have removed their blockade."

Previously, workers of these two jute mills had blocked a road in Dhaka's Jatrabari area demanding the payment of their outstanding wages.

Around 200 workers of Latif Bawani Jute Mills blocked the road around 9am on Tuesday.

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Jatrabari police station Operation-in-Charge Kazi Wazed Ali said: "Workers are demanding the payment of their outstanding wages. They say their protest is valid. 

"We have talked to them. They will leave soon, and are not going to harass people.”

Previously, on Monday morning, around 1,000 workers of Latif Bawani Jute Mills and Karim Jute Mills blocked the road near the Demra Staff Quarter area, making the same demands.
